Heroes not just for one day

"Teachers taught me to be as brave as Juliet. They taught me to value time especially when it’s already May and classes will start on June. Life may not be like the song Jenny but we are all Lucky to have one.  Always Discipline Thyself is the lesson I won’t forget from them. And most of all, they taught me that one should have faith and ask help from Emmanuel. "

Back then when I was a child, people around me were merely ordinary humans. Heroes were just those you can watch in televisions. Heroes are the ones with supernatural powers and they live to save mankind.

But as I grow up, I never thought that a person could be a hero even how simple we treat him/her. A person doesn’t need to have special powers and fight for the safety of people. A hero can be an ordinary one. You can be a hero. I can be a hero. We can all be.

And I’m lucky that heroes already touched my life. Those heroes were already part of my life. They didn’t sacrifice their lives like Jose Rizal and Sajid Bulig but they have saved a life. Though they didn’t shed their blood for us, they shed their sweat. My life wouldn’t be like this without them. I guess I’d be an illiterate one and I’m like a walking dead.

I may not be the best student for them, but they would always be the best teachers for me. I don’t sugarcoat all these words for them to give me high grades. The truth is, they deserved to be praised. They deserve to receive gratitude.

This piece of mine serves as a thank you gift for all those teachers that made me who I am today. Honestly, I value all of you. Living my life without parents beside me because they are working abroad made me fortunate enough to have you. My teachers are my second parents together with my guardian. You are there to guide me with my decisions and you never failed to do what’s best for me.

I would like to take this opportunity to show my love and gratitude to Ma’am Lenny. Thank you Ma’am for being there all throughout. Though sometimes I act childishly and cry because of my problems, you always try your best to understand me. You give the best advices and thanks for that. Sorry if I fail to fulfill my responsibilities sometimes but still, you make room for another chance. You are always there to encourage your students and to live life the way it is. You know when to be a joker and when to be strict. Words can’t express how much I value you.

And to all my teachers out there, thank you so much. For ten hours, you are with me instead of caring for your own family. Though the day seems tiring, it always ends up productive because of the knowledge you impart to us. Sorry if sometimes we are being stubborn and we don’t obey your rules.

October 5 is the World Teacher’s Day but for me, everyday should be teacher’s day.

Ma'am and Sir, thank you very much! I’m proud to say “My teacher, My hero”. We love you. J

Ma’am Juliet, Ma’am May, Ma’am Jenny Ann, Ma’am Lucky, Ma’am Orsal, Ma’am Arlyn, Ma’am Malou, Sir Ces, Ma’am Evelyn, Ma’am Ligsa, Ma'am Pareja, Ma'am Jennylou, Ma'am Mye, Ma'am Lenny, Ma'am Myra, Ma'am Jenette, Ma'am Digma, Ma'am Elain, Ma'am Bel, Ma'am del Val, Ma'am Eve, Ma'am Jackie, Ma'am Rhea, Ma'am Bisa, Ma'am Ruby, Ma'am Chato, Ma'am Djhoana, Sir Tom, Ma'am Nila . Alive or Dead?

To be or not to be: that is the question
Our future depends on our decision,
Will we fight to have a better life
Or end all those heartaches with a knife?

To be or not to be: that is the question
Whether the odds are in your favor or not
And faith is only what you’ve got.
Will you still live and fight?

To be or not to be: that is question
Though you’re encountering commotions
Ending your life is not the solution
To live with sufferings is another option.

Confusions and Laughter Along the Way

What if I have a long lost twin and my parents are not telling it to me? What if sometimes she's the one talking to my friends and studying in my school? These are the questions that bothered my mind while my classmates were discussing "Comedy of Errors".

Comedy of Errors is actually a play written by William Shakespeare. It is considered one of the shortest play with 16 258 words. The story took place in Ephesus which we call Turkey nowadays. The story is about two twins who were separated by a shipwreck. The twins' names are Antipholus of Ephesus, Antipholus of Syracuse, Dromio of Ephesus and Dromio of Syracuse. Antipholus of Ephesus is with Dromio of Ephesus and the like. Since they have the same names, they are just recognized in the place they lived in.

While my classmate was discussing the story, confusions came along the way. I don't know who's who. Maybe the reason for this was I haven't read the story. But when our teacher was the one who explained it, I was able to understand, a bit.

It taught me a moral that simple mistakes make bigger problems. In the story, people mistaken the twins and simple conversations between them confused them a lot. There are times that Dromio of Syracuse thought that he was talking with Antipholus of Syracuse, but the truth is he's talking with Antipholus of Ephesus. I can't help but to laugh when my classmate was saying parts of the play which is like that.

I can say that this one is different. It caught my attention and though confusions are there, the author was able to make it a comedy piece. But still, there are weaknesses that even us can't avoid.

To sum up, Comedy of Errors is not that great, not that bad. It is not about how good or bad it is, it depends on how it was able to touch the lives of the readers.

NCAE, NCAE

I'm now in my third year in my Alma Mater and two years from now, I will be entering universities and take up the course that is of my interest. As of now, I can't decide what course I will take up. Though it will be two years from now, I think it's better to decide early.

Then I learned about this National Career Assessment Examination. It is said that this examination helps students know in which field are they inclined. Some say that it is just a waste of time, effort and paper. But for me, these papers will help me someday.

Not only me, but those students out there who don't have a definite choice of what to take up. You can't just simply choose a course. Once you've chosen one, you need to pursue it. There's no turning back. And I think this NCAE will be a great help.

Knowing your abilities will help you decide and I think it will be easier for you to take up college. But remember, the results are just guide for you to choose. Your decision doesn't entirely depend on it. It is still your interest that counts a lot. Follow your heart and choose what you want. Most of all, we should not forget to ask guidance from our Lord.

Tomorrow will be a tough day. I am hoping to have good results from this examination. Aja Juniors!

Essence of Sports

Every time students hear "Intramurals", happiness are seen in their faces. Not just because there would be no classes but of course, it is the time to prove and showcase their talents in a certain sport. Though I'm not sporty and I don't play any sport, I enjoyed the 2-day Intramurals for this school year.
Hands up and touch the sky!
Sports - a simple word yet with deeper meaning. It is not just about playing games like volleyball and basketball. Sports help people to be healthy and be fit. Not only that, sports also develops our leadership. This also enhances our way of thinking especially in making decisions. Teamwork is developed and while playing, we tend to forget our problems because we are entertained. When injuries come, one does not simply ignore the injured person. Players help each other whether they are opponents or not to show concern to the injured individual.

Most of all, sports develops our attitudes. This makes us understand that in life, you will not always win. There will come a time that you will fail. Life is a bumpy ride. There are a lot of ups and downs and you should not give up. In sports, one will develop sportsmanship. You must accept that you will not win all the games.

We can really say that sports is important to become a better individual. As what Sir Tom always say, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

Which is which?

Language is our way of expressing ourselves and if we are not fluent enough, how can we express our opinions and beliefs? But which is more important, fluency in English or mastery of your mother tongue?
According to the Department of Education (DepEd), local and international studies have shown that using the language used at home (mother tongue) inside the classroom during the learners’ early years of schooling produces better and faster learners who can easily adapt to learn a second (Filipino) and third (English) language. That’s why they had a new scheme: “Mother Tongue-Based Multi-Lingual Education” (MTB-MLE).
Our mother tongue is something to be proud of. It’s a part of our culture and we should never neglect it. Teaching children to speak with their mother tongue is considered beneficial. Why? It is because as they grow up, it will help them socialize with their society. Imagine a child who is a native in Cavite but does not know how to speak Tagalog. How will the child make friends with other children who only know their mother tongue? Our native language also reflects our identity as Filipinos. We show respect to elders with our language using “po” and “opo” as well as using “ate” and “kuya” whereas in other language, they are not used.
But on the other hand, fluency in English could help us a lot. Most of the time, English is the medium used in job applications. People who are fluent in English easily get a job than the others who are not. It is also easy to socialize with other people especially foreigners if you know the language. This will make you stand out in a crowd. Not just that, you can say that most of our books are written in English. In connection with that, English language can help a lot in gathering information, making researches and learning in school. You might get wrong information if you didn’t understand what is written in the book.
We need not to choose between the two because both of them are important. Some may prefer our mother tongue, others may like English. But what is more important is we can express ourselves. Though English is often used, one should not neglect his native language. But this does not mean that we should only focus in our native language. We all need English language. It’s just that the culture should be remembered. To end this piece of writing, I can say that DepEd did the right thing for implementing MTB-MLE wherein Filipinos will use their mother tongue as medium for teaching children in their early learning stage for it makes the children aware of Philippine Literature.

It’s 9 o’clock in the evening and I’m still here in this dark place. I vociferated a lot but no one seems to hear me. I’m too lost to be found.

My name is Jared. I admit I’m a knave. I’m a rambunctious student. Nobody likes me. I’d been into affrays and all this time, I’m the loser. In fact, I didn’t even have a rapport with my family after a serious incident. When I was 11 years old, they found out that I have rheumatic heart disease. My mother became depressed after knowing about my illness and she died. And after that incident, I was always blamed by my father.

My father always scolds me and this time, I can’t take it anymore. Earlier, my little sister and I were playing badminton inside our house and I accidentally hit our chandelier. After 3 years, he can’t still forget what happened to my mom. The words that came out of his mouth hurt me a lot. I never felt that we were consanguineous. I can’t accept the fact that my own father by blood and by flesh tears my heart like this. He never had time for me. He was too busy working.

That’s why I ran away. And now I’m stuck in this cemetery with my grungy clothes. I’m not that brave after all. When I was still a child, I hate horror movies. I always run to my mother and hug her tight whenever I dream about hag-like women who wear their babushkas. I always go to my mother’s tomb whenever I feel bad. In fact, she had a pseudonym for me – Red. I miss my mother a lot. Her laugh was the best sound I ever heard. Though my little sister is garrulous, there was never a time that my mom asked her to be fainéant. That’s why I love my mom very much. My mother’s love for me is enow. I never felt ennui when she’s by my side.

I want to be with her. I need to be with her. In fact, I just have 2 months left. The doctor told me that my disease got worst. I read the results of my tests and clearly, it is not faitour. I will die soon. Having two more months to live is piffle. I don’t need it anymore. No one will care if I die today.
I am now holding the haft of my dagger. Before ending my life, I thought of my little sister. I hope she’ll be fine. I hope she’ll not be as coward as her brother is. I hope she’ll remember mom’s apothegms. Sorry little sister, I can’t take it anymore. I was about to kill myself when my mother’s wraith appeared. She told me not to end my life that way. “The Lord has plans for you my son. Struggles are there to make you stronger. Many people love you. You are not alone in this bumpy ride called life. Just be true to yourself and reach your dreams. Everything will be fine. Your father loves you. He just want you to learn things. Go back home my son. I love you..”

BLAG! I fell from my bed. It was a dream! I slept after crying for a long time. My mom is right, my father loves me. And after that dream, I stood up and went to my father’s office. I asked for forgiveness and gladly he forgave me. He hugged me tight and he said sorry for the things he had said. Mom is right, I shouldn’t end my life because there’s many people that need me.

Two months had passed, I’m still alive. My condition is getting better. I thank God for giving me another chance to live. I promised him that I will never try to commit suicide again. Life is the most precious gift he had given to me.
